Celebrating World Read Aloud Day in Barbados

 | Feb 28, 2011

The Barbados Association of Reading (BAR) supports World Read Aloud Day on March 9, 2011, reports Cheryl Williams, and is encouraging its members to celebrate by promoting reading activities in the school and at home. World Read Aloud Day shines a spotlight on the estimated 774 million people around the world who cannot read.

World Read Aloud Day is an initiative of LitWorld, a literacy organization that trains teachers and community leaders in strategies to help children to read. Visit this page on the LitWorld website for ideas, lesson plans, and more. In the United States, LitWorld is hosting a 24-hour reading marathon in Times Square in New York City on March 9.
