ILA National Recognition in the CAEP Accreditation Process and ILA National Recognition for Reading/Literacy Specialist Programs

Thursday, October 10, 2019, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM

This workshop is designed to support reading/literacy specialist program faculty who plan to write a CAEP, AAQEP, or state-mandated report on program alignment to ILA's Standards for the Preparation of Literacy Professionals 2017 (Standards 2017). The workshop will focus on two specific opportunities: ILA National Recognition and ILA National Recognition With Distinction for reading/literacy specialist programs.

ILA National Recognition for reading/literacy specialist preparation programs continues to be the gold standard of excellence and is awarded only by the International Literacy Association. The first half of the workshop will provide an overview of the changing landscape of teacher preparation program approval and engage participants in discussion on ways to attain and maintain ILA National Recognition. There will also be time for individual consultations for those who have written a SPA report in the CAEP process and for those interested in writing or reviewing ILA National Recognition program reports.

The second half of the workshop will focus on the revised ILA National Recognition With Distinction process and the innovative programs that have earned this recognition. Literacy leaders and faculty of these distinguished programs will share their experiences, including how their programs made improvements to align to ILA's Standards 2017. In addition, literacy leaders from states will share how Standards 2017 has informed their state standards and professional learning plans.
