The International Literacy Association's Literacy Research Panel (LRP) was formed in 2012 to respond to critical literacy issues facing policymakers, school administrators, teacher educators, classroom teachers, and families, among others. The LRP focuses on the relationship of research to policy and practice and develops high-quality resources, programs, and activities on behalf of the organization.

LRP projects
Over the past several years, LRP projects have included:
- Developing the Literacy Glossary, a collection of terms necessary to critical discussions on literacy research and instruction
- Planning and conducting a series of sessions at the ILA conference on the application of research-based perspectives to critical issues
- Planning and leading the Research Institute at the ILA conference
- Providing research input for ILA's biennial What's Hot in Literacy survey
- Drafting literacy leadership briefs on topics ranging from phonics instruction to teacher preparation
