Danielle V. Dennis, PhD, is the dean of the Feinstein College of Education at the University of Rhode Island and professor of literacy teacher education and policy. Dennis served on the ILA Board from 2020–2023, chairing the publications committee and serving as the Board liaison for the editorial team searches for Reading Research Quarterly, Journal of Adolescent & Adult Literacy, and The Reading Teacher.
Currently, Dennis is chairing the ILA assessment task force and serves on the research committee. She also serves as a director on the National Center for Clinical Practice in Educator Preparation Board and was the policy committee chair for the Literacy Research Association. Dennis was an elementary and middle school teacher in Colorado, Florida, and Minnesota, and most recently taught Years 1–2 (K–1) in a United Kingdom primary school while serving as professor-in-residence at the site. Her research focuses on building teacher capacity in literacy through sustained professional development, the design and implementation of curriculum, and policy initiatives that enhance or inhibit educational experiences of children and teachers, particularly as they relate to literacy assessment.
