Have you ever wanted to get your youngest writers engaged in the writing workshop, see themselves as writers, and connect to some real mentor authors? This unit of study will do all that AND help you build a strong community in your classroom. The authors of this study use an often overlooked genre, biography, and showed young writers just learning about the writing process how they can be authors just like the ones in the beloved picture books that accompany each lesson. The result is a room full of conversation, laughter, questions, and authentic writing!
