Every child. Every book. Every right.
International Literacy Day (ILD), observed annually on September 8, was established by UNESCO in 1967 to remind the world that literacy is both a human right and a foundation for dignity.
This year, we invite you to celebrate the power of reading all month long—because every page has a purpose, and behind each one is a child who deserves the right to read it. This belief is at the heart of ILA’s Children’s Rights to Read initiative, founded on 10 fundamental rights every child deserves.
